Name: Eloise Bridgerton Door: door pass Canon: Bridgerton Canon Point: Episode 8 of Season 2, after discovering who Lady Whistledown is Age: 18 Appearance: History: link here Personality: Naivety Eloise is a young girl in a very male-centric society. Because of this she is sheltered from most things given her family's wealth and status. Her mother does not give her daughters sex education for example. When she finds out a family member of her friend is pregnant, it confuses her about how an unmarried woman becomes pregnant, and she loudly questions her family on how one becomes pregnant. Her mother intentionally keeps her sheltered though. She really has only been around her family and Penelope, her best friend. It does make her inquisitive and unashamed about wanting to know about the world around her. She understands that classism exists, but after becoming interested in philosophy, she entangles herself with a working class boy and a political group. As if none of this could negatively impact her (or who she becomes involved with). As Theo tells her when they part, she has dipped her toes in his life, and she can go now with ease. Privileged Intertwined with her naivety is her privilege. A lot of what she does is tied with her ability to simply do it. There are consequences in society, but Theo points out that any scandal between them would affect his job and thus his livelihood. Eliose is a part of a very prominent family. Her father and now oldest brother hold the title of Viscount, and they have a sizable estate with no issues of money. This allows them a higher stance in their society which also allows Violet to keep her daughters sheltered. This high elevation even keeps the Featheringtons from trying to swindle them. If anyone actively tries to come against any of the Bridgertons it would not be good for them. This doesn't mean that they aren't untouchable though. Their family and Eloise comes under attack from the gossiper Lady Whistledown, and by the end of season she is ostracized as the consequences from associating with political radicals. She tends to first only think of herself and her actions before really realizing how it affects not only others but the big picture of how society is structured. Though she is aware of at least her place as a woman since she does not have male privilege, but class privilege. While class privilege does shape a large part, being a woman in her society affects her the most. She is aware of the gender discrimination, wanting to do so much more that she simply cannot do or it is much harder because of her gender. She cannot go to University. There are so many accomplishments that are affected by the privilege she does not have. Opinionated Eloise is only becoming aware of how her class privilege affects her, but one of her biggest motivators is the urge to buck away from societal pressures in general. It is not simply that she is a rebel, as she explains to her mother when she tries to pair her with a Lord who is arrogant but known as rebellious. Eloise questions everything, especially when the gender discrepancies for her time are so apparent. She is hungry for knowledge and experience, not wanting to marry and become pregnant-- ending her chances of accomplishing anything. And while she learns more and questions more, she forms more and more opinions about her life and the society she leads. Eloise does not shy away from giving her opinions either. She does not want to simply be a wife and mother. Her interests are not in looking pretty and peacocking for some man. She makes her thoughts known loudly even if it is not asked for, and often can come across rudely. That does not deter her either. She often interjects little quips and clever comebacks without thought. Kind-hearted Despite coming across rude though, it is usually just humor. Overall she is not cruel despite her judgments of the society. Eloise never speaks badly about other girls and women, because she understand the confines of her society and that women are not afforded the same opportunities. She is not trying to be unlike other women for the sake of being conceited and "above" them. In fact she wants girls and women to have more rights so they all can have the same opportunities and accomplish more than just baring children. And while at first she admires Lady Whistledown for writing pamphlets and getting her name out there as a woman. She's also impressed with the fact that she has such a platform, but as time goes on she realizes just how destructive Whisteldown's writings are. She wants to find Whistledown for the sole motivation of talking and discussing things with her, and she tells Penelope that she wishes Whistledown did more with her writings. Eloise realizes that Whistledown has this huge opportunity to shape and change their society, but instead Whistledown only continues to write and ruin people's reputations. It's only exacerbated when she learns that Lady Whistledown is none other than her best friend. She only realized it was Penelope when she noted just how good and how much she liked to gossip at balls and parties, something Eloise never cared about nor could do because she isn't interested in hurting other people. Powers and Abilities: Typical, human girl with a penchant for words and writing. Inventory: Regency clothes worn on her body and a box of Lady Whistedown's writings. Samples: TDM link TFLN meme |
